This case study describes a project in which we supplied custom-branded commercial induction cooktops to a UK-based restaurant chain. The client name is withheld for confidentiality, but the project details are accurate. It is shared as a practical illustration of how the OEM supply process works from initial specification through to installation.
The Client’s Requirements
The client operated 18 casual dining locations across England and Scotland and was planning a kitchen equipment refresh across all sites. They wanted to standardise on a single induction cooktop model that could be installed consistently in all kitchens, carry their brand name on the control panel, and comply with UK electrical and safety standards.
Key specifications: 4-zone built-in induction cooktop, 7,200W total output (1,800W per zone), black glass ceramic surface, custom logo on the fascia, UKCA and CE compliant, two-year warranty. Delivery to a UK logistics hub was required within 14 weeks of order.
Specification and Sampling
We reviewed the specification in detail and identified one point requiring clarification: the client’s existing kitchen wiring was configured for 32A single-phase supply, which meant the unit needed to operate on single-phase rather than the three-phase supply more common for 7,200W multi-zone units. We proposed a modified wiring configuration and confirmed compatibility with the client’s electrical contractor before proceeding.
Two pre-production samples were shipped by air express within three weeks of specification sign-off. The client tested both units in an active restaurant kitchen for two weeks, using them through full service periods to assess heating consistency, control panel usability, and surface durability. Both units passed the evaluation with minor feedback on the control panel button travel, which was adjusted before production.
Production and Inspection
The production order was 72 units (four per site). Production took 33 working days. We provided weekly production photo updates. The client commissioned an independent pre-shipment inspection, which we facilitated without restriction — the inspector had full access to the production facility and finished goods. The inspection returned no critical defects.
Documentation
We provided CE and UKCA Declarations of Conformity, LVD and EMC test reports, RoHS material compliance documentation, and installation guides in English. The client’s procurement compliance team reviewed all documentation before authorising the balance payment.
Outcome
Goods arrived at the UK logistics hub within the agreed timeline and were distributed to sites over a three-week installation programme. Within six months of installation, two units required warranty service — both were resolved with air-shipped spare parts within ten working days. The client subsequently placed a further order for three new sites.
